This is what you get in the More version of this window (you use the More button to show it).

Skins

Change the skin - the texture, colours and so on for Bounce metronome. A quick way to make a new skin is to drag and DROP an image, animation, or folder of images into this window...

Have you downloaded your extra skins for Bounce metronome?

You can get them here:

http://www.bouncemetronome.com/extra_downloads.htm

DROP ANY IMAGE INTO THIS WINDOW TO MAKE IT INTO A SKIN

Or use any image you have - just drag and drop it into the skins window. You may want to fade your image if it is hard to read the text in front of it. You can do that using the Fade to background by check box. For more about this see the tip for the check box or see [#Make skin from an image] below.

You can fade your image to the background colour if the text is hard to read. See [#Make skin from an image] below

SKIN COLOURS

You can change the colours in Bounce metronome using Colours (Ctrl + 7). Then if you want the colours to be part of your new skin, save them to the skin using Save Skin Settings & Colours.

DROP IMAGE SHORTCUTS

DROP to make a new skin with the new image.

ALT + DROP to change the image for the current skin

ALT + SHIFT + DROP to change the image for the current skin for the main window only.

SHIFT + DROP to just change the file in the New IMAGE for skin field in Skins (Ctrl + 162) - you can decide what to do with it later.

MAKE SKIN FROM AN IMAGE

If the text is hard to read, try the "Fade to background by" check box, and vary the amount you want to fade the image by. This makes it more uniform in colour so that the text is easier to read.

You can choose what colour to fade it to - preset is pale blue. To change the background colour to fade to, use the Change Skin Colours button and look for Skin Background. Or for the main window if you have a separate texture for the main window, look for Main Window skin background.

Many images e.g. from cameras are much larger than a computer screen at full resolution. You can use the Rescale Texture check box to show them smaller here without changing the original image.

PLAIN BACKGROUND OR COLOUR GRADIENT

If you prefer a plain background or a colour gradient (e.g. shading from blue to white etc) use the Plain background colour check box and configure the colours using the Change Skin colours button.

DROP FOLDERS OF IMAGES FOR A SLIDE SHOW SKIN

Select Slide Show. Then just drop the folder into the skin window. Then set the number of seconds per frame for the slide show. This uses the images in their original location so if you add a new image to the folder it will automatically be included in the slide show skin.

DROP FOLDERS OF ANIMATION FRAMES OR AN ANIMATION FOR AN ANIMATED SKIN

Again drop the folder or animation into the skin, this time you need to unselect "Slide show" - to show frames per second as you are likely to want to have several frames per second (while a slide show is likely to have several seconds per frame).

You can use animations in many file formats. Bounce metronome currently can only read .AVI files or the folders of separate animation frames directly. However it can read just about any animation if you convert it into AVI files first. Get the MEncoder plug in and it will do the conversion automatically for you - just drag and drop the AVI file into Skins (Ctrl + 162) and Bounce metronome will convert it to an avi file to make a new skin.

With folders, this uses the images in their original location. With .AVI files it makes a new copy of the file to use for the skin.

Skins (drop list)

Select from one of the saved skins for Bounce metronome ... If you want to make a new skin, enter desired name here and use the Save New Skin button.

Font (button)

Changes the font you use for the skin and for most of the text in Bounce Metronome...

Doesn't make any difference to the menus which use a Windows system font. Just about everything else gets changed.

The font size you set in this window has no effect on the skin because the text in each window in Bounce Metronome gets auto rescaled depending on the size of the window (e.g. mazimise a window and the text for buttons, check boxes etc rescales to fit the new size for the controls).

So - instead you need to set the % amount for the skin text. Some fonts tend to be larger than others - so for some you want it less than 100% to compensate and some you want more than 100%

Rescale texture by (check box)

Rescale texture by any custom amount

Browse... (button)

Browse for the Image to use with the buttons to make a new skin etc.

>> History (button)

Click here to show recently visited drop lists of this type...

Alternatively, Ctrl + right click button, text field or drop list

Keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F10

Rename Skin (button)

Renames the current skin - to use this first enter the desired new name into the text area for the drop list.

Delete current skin (button)

Removes this skin to recycle bin, or Shift + click to delete permanently

SAVE SKIN (button)

Save colours for all items as the preset colours for the selected skin and saves other skin settings

READ Skin (button)

Go back to the preset colours and settings for this skin

Get More Skins... (button)

Go to the website to get more skins for Bounce Metronome

Skin Animations (Ctrl + 241)

Here you can configure how the animated skins work

Skin Buttons (Ctrl + 240)

Configure what you want the buttons to look like in Bounce Metronome

Pause animated skins now (check box)

Pauses the skin animation - keyboard shortcut CTRL + PERIOD (FULL STOP) and CTRL + COMMA to resume from the pause....

When paused it should use no more computer time than the other skins - so won't slow down the bouncing balls animations

Folder Contents... (button)

Shows the folder with all the images for the current skin. You can edit these to change the appearance of the icons such as the play buttons

Plain background colour (check box)

Show a plain background colour or colour gradient - set the colours in Colours (Ctrl + 7)

Separate texture for Main Window (check box)

This can be useful to pick out the main window when you have many on the screen

Reflect textures at seams (check box)

Reflects the image at its edges to make seamless joins - useful if the image wasn't designed as a texture...

The texture is displayed like this:

Normal Reflected left / right

reflected up / down Reflected both ways

The effect is to smooth the boundaries from one copy to the next - no abrupt colour changes though lines change direction abruptly unless they cross the boundary at right angles.

Of course if it is a scene or some such, then the reflected textures have everything upside down or reflected left right etc. It can look quite nice with mountains etc, rather as if reflected in a lake.

Use skin background colour for droplists & text areas (check box)

Uses the background colour as set in Colours (Ctrl + 7) for all the text fields in Bounce metronome

Vertical colour gradient (check box)

Shows a colour gradient. It gradually changes from one colour at top of the texture (or window) to another at the bottom...

With Plain background colour switched on, the gradient is over the entire window.

When you have a textured background, then each copy of the texture image is gradient filled separately.

You can change both colours for the gradient fill in Colours (Ctrl + 7).

Horizontal colour gradient (check box)

Shows a colour gradient. It gradually changes from one colour at left of the texture (or window) to another at the right..

With Plain background colour switched on, the gradient is over the entire window.

When you have a textured background, then each copy of the texture image is gradient filled separately.

You can change both colours for the gradient fill in Colours (Ctrl + 7).

Fade to background colour by (check box)

This makes the skin more uniform in colour so that the text is easier to read.

You can choose what colour to fade it to - preset is pale blue. To change the background colour to fade to, use the Change Skin Colours button and look for Skin Background.

If you have a separate texture for the main window, look for Main Window skin background for that one.

Fade to background colour by (editable)

How much to fade it by - 100% fades it completely so you just see the colour, 0% doesn't fade it at all so you just get the texture...

Values below 0 and above 100% are also permitted - they can give interesting effects with some textures.

Auto rescale texture to fit individual windows (check box)

Automatically stretches the texture to fit the diimensions of each window, for all the windows

Auto rescale texture to fit main window (check box)

Rescales the texture only if it needs to be made smaller to fit the main window - and also rescales textures for all the windows to same height as needed for main window
