source file: mills2.txt Date: Sun, 10 Dec 1995 05:45:30 -0800 Subject: recent Apple hardware and sound problems From: Paul Rapoport On the subject of Carter Scholz's point re Apple hardware and sound production: The lab here bought several Performa 5200s over the summer. Initially, Lime would not launch. According to the Lime people, Apple created a machine that did not work with its own MIDI manager. Most recent versions of Lime use QuickTime instead, thus enabling the program to run most of its functions, but it may be impossible to use MIDI with the current version of QuickTime. (I am unsure: the problem may lie only with Apple's MIDI manager.) The Lime people responded immediately to our problem, but they cannot fix what seems to be Apple's mistake. I'd be interested in anyone else's experience with MIDI on a Performa 5200, using any music software. ========================== ================================= Dr. Paul Rapoport e-mail: rapoport@mcmaster.ca SADM (Music) tel: 905 529 7070, ext. 2 4217 McMaster University fax: 905 527 6793 Received: from eartha.mills.edu [144.91.3.20] by vbv40.ezh.nl with SMTP-OpenVMS via TCP/IP; Thu, 14 Dec 1995 02:15 +0100 Received: from by eartha.mills.edu via SMTP (940816.SGI.8.6.9/930416.SGI) for id RAA12025; Wed, 13 Dec 1995 17:15:13 -0800 Date: Wed, 13 Dec 1995 17:15:13 -0800 Message-Id: Errors-To: madole@ella.mills.edu Reply-To: tuning@eartha.mills.edu Originator: tuning@eartha.mills.edu Sender: tuning@eartha.mills.edu
