source file: mills2.txt Date: Fri, 13 Dec 1996 10:34:40 -0800 Subject: Corrupting our youth (a call for help) From: gtaylor@heurikon.com (One Cointreau, on ice....) This was forwarded from the ICMA mailing list. Which of you learned souls wants to recruit microtonalists from among our young? :-) To whom it may concern: My name is Alison Marlowe, and I am a 10th grader in Illinois. I am interested, if it is available, in information which has to do with mathematics and its relation to music, specifically tuning and scales. Any literature (emailed, please) or other sources (such as from a professor) would be highly appreciated. A bit of a hurry is requested, because the report is due 12-17-96. Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, Alison Marlowe 10th grade student ABM2631@aol.com _ When I pronounce the word Future,/the first syllable already belongs to the past./When I pronounce the word Silence,/I destroy it./When I pronounce the word Nothing,/I make something no nonbeing can hold./ (Wislawa Szymborska) Gregory Taylor, Heurikon Corp. http://www.msn.fullfeed.com/~gtaylor/home.html Received: from ns.ezh.nl [137.174.112.59] by vbv40.ezh.nl with SMTP-OpenVMS via TCP/IP; Fri, 13 Dec 1996 20:59 +0100 Received: by ns.ezh.nl; (5.65v3.2/1.3/10May95) id AA03684; Fri, 13 Dec 1996 21:01:16 +0100 Received: from eartha.mills.edu by ns (smtpxd); id XA03685 Received: from by eartha.mills.edu via SMTP (940816.SGI.8.6.9/930416.SGI) for id MAA17265; Fri, 13 Dec 1996 12:01:11 -0800 Date: Fri, 13 Dec 1996 12:01:11 -0800 Message-Id: Errors-To: madole@ella.mills.edu Reply-To: tuning@eartha.mills.edu Originator: tuning@eartha.mills.edu Sender: tuning@eartha.mills.edu
