Rober Dick has built an open-hole bass flute. Wooden non-keyed flutes can have the termperament altered easily through the careful placement of scotch tape over parts of the open tone holes at the necessary angles. The flute is quite versitile. Some of the "altered" pitches have an airyer or thinner, almost discolored quality, more similar to wooden flutes sounds, but more pronounced. Oboe: great promise for circular breathing multiphonic development. If the musical ear hears the relationship, the oboe is quite obediant. My oboes solo _Melanin_ will be premiered by San Francisco oboist Brenda Schuman-Post this Dec. 12 at the Kosciuszko Foundation, 15 E. 65 St, NYC.) Clarinet: even with the bass clarinet's keys it's fairly flexible. The Bb commoner is quite rich in its possibilities. There is nothing impossible to accomplish with reliability and evenness of tone on the clarinet. Bassoon: my microtonal baby. It give me everything that I ask of it. Our love affair will continue as long as it continues to surprise and reward me in our musical partnership. It's all in the fingerings thanks to both open tone holes and 26 keys, and a 3.5 octave range, and a rich fundamental laden tone, etc. ;) Johnny Reinhard Director American Festival of Microtonal Music 318 East 70th Street, Suite 5FW New York, New York 10021 USA (212)517-3550/fax (212) 517-5495 reinhard@idt.net http://www.echonyc.com/~jhhl/AFMM SMTPOriginator: tuning@eartha.mills.edu From: Aline Surman Subject: composing in non 12et PostedDate: 15-11-97 04:54:40 SendTo: CN=coul1358/OU=AT/O=EZH ReplyTo: tuning@eartha.mills.edu $MessageStorage: 0 $UpdatedBy: CN=notesrv2/OU=Server/O=EZH,CN=coul1358/OU=AT/O=EZH,CN=Manuel op de Coul/OU=AT/O=EZH RouteServers: CN=notesrv2/OU=Server/O=EZH,CN=notesrv1/OU=Server/O=EZH RouteTimes: 15-11-97 04:53:26-15-11-97 04:53:27,15-11-97 04:53:39-15-11-97 04:53:39 DeliveredDate: 15-11-97 04:53:39 Categories: $Revisions: Received: from ns.ezh.nl ([137.174.112.59]) by notesrv2.ezh.nl (Lotus SMTP MTA SMTP v4.6 (462.2 9-3-1997)) with SMTP id C1256550.00155B94; Sat, 15 Nov 1997 04:53:17 +0100 Received: by ns.ezh.nl; (5.65v3.2/1.3/10May95) id AA03089; Sat, 15 Nov 1997 04:54:40 +0100 Date: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 04:54:40 +0100 Received: from ella.mills.edu by ns (smtpxd); id XA03087 Received: (qmail 24728 invoked from network); 14 Nov 1997 19:54:38 -0800 Received: from localhost (HELO ella.mills.edu) (127.0.0.1) by localhost with SMTP; 14 Nov 1997 19:54:38 -0800 Message-Id: <346D26F6.7152@dnvr.uswest.net> Errors-To: madole@mills.edu Reply-To: tuning@eartha.mills.edu Originator: tuning@eartha.mills.edu Sender: tuning@eartha.mills.edu
