Organise windows

Organise windows

Reset, or Save settings for this window. RIGHT CLICK for all windows menu...

Shows the Organise windows window - which you can use to reset all the parameters for the current window.

You can also use it to save the settings for just this window, or open previously saved parameters for just this window.

Also has a drop list of all the windows and their shortcuts, and related options - some to do with the menu listing, and some to do with window resizing and minimising.

How to get here

Press the F2 key.

Or click on the O organise windows button at top right of most windows in FTS.

You can right click on the O organise windows button in any window to show a menu of all the windows sorted by category.

How to use this window

Select a window from the drop list, and click the Show button to show it.

To save the settings for any of the windows, use one of the Save As buttons, and then to get back to those settings use any of the Open buttons. You can use this for instance as an easy way to save all the settings for one of the windows to copy it to other projects or tasks. Or as a way to save settings for frequently used values of the parameters as an easy way to set the window up all in one go.

You can also right click on this icon as a quick way to get the floating drop menu of all the Tune Smithy windows organised by category

List of windows you can show. Select from drop list then hit enter to show the window. You can also use its shortcut - or you can use the short name using Ctrl + enter. E.g.Ctrl + enter, PAN, enter to show the stereo pan window.

Droplist of windows. Tip - type the first few letters to go to an entry...

E.g. type Pa to show the Parts window entry.

You may need to wait a couple of seconds before trying this again.

Show for Task Only

Shows only windows, menu entries && controls relevant to current task...

Changes which buttons, controls, menu entries etc are shown throughout Tune Smithy. Also removes windows irrelevant to the current main window task from the drop lists of windows in the Organise Windows window and in the Overview windows.

This is applied to all the windows relevant to the current task - they are all customised as necessary for the current task by removing irrelevant / confusing controls from them.

If you show an excluded window anyway, e.g. using a keyboard shortcut, then the window will be shown with its full complement of buttons etc. So e.g. if you show a fractal tune window from one of the other tasks, that window will be shown with all the tune options etc visible, (otherwise often it would just be completely blank or nearly so)

For more details see the message you get when you select or unselect this option

USING THIS LIST

If you want to navigate quickly to a file in any of the folders you have previously visited - then first choose the folder you want to go to here. Then go to File | Open - or use the Open... entry in the recent files list, and you will find that you go to the folder you selected here.

WHAT YOUR SELECTION HERE CHANGES

For windows with a separate Folder text field, your selection here will immediately update that field as well (e.g. for Record to File).

Your selection here also changes the drop list of files shown in the fractal tunes drop lists, or for the retuning midi player

It doesn't change the drop lists of scales, as those are user editable menus set up with their own navigation system and needn't correspond to the locations of any scales files on disk.

WITH THE PREFERRED FOLDER OPTION SWITCHED ON

Note that you can also choose a preferred folder to go to every time for File | Open - configured in the recent file types opts. That option overrides the folder selected here.

So, if you have the preferred folder switched on, the only effect of your selection here is to change the way the files are displayed in the recent files lists.

Tip of the day...

Shows a new tip of the day each time the window is shown...

You can switch this Tip of the Day on / off using the check box in this window.

The idea is to introduce various features of Tune Smithy that you may not have found yet for yourself.

Most windows have a small star. This shows a tip of the day for the category the window belongs to.. For instance the star on the scale windows will bring up scale tips.

There are plans to add more tips in the near future.

Forget Pos.

Forgets the position and sizes of all the tune smithy windows...

Use to get the windows all back to their preset sizes. Only forgets positions of windows not currently shown - close them all first if you want to forget them all.

Less <<

Shows this window with either less space, less options, or alternative layout

Help = F1

Click for help for this window. Or F1. Other opts: Shift , Alt, Ctrl + click...

F1 or click shows the help for the current window in your web browser.

Some windows may have no help yet in which case the help icon is shown crossed out with a red line.

Shift + F1 or Shift + Click brings up the tool tips extra help window (this window) to show any extra help for a tool tip.

You can tell if a tool tip has extra help if it ends ... like this one.

Ctrl + F1 or Ctrl + click takes you to the list of keyboard shortcuts for Tune Smithy.

Alt + F1 or Alt + click (alternatively Caps lock physically held down + F1 or Click) takes you to the on-line page at the robertinventor.com web site about the current main window task - which gives a short introduction to it for newbies to the program. If there is no on-line page specific to a task, takes you to the main tune smithy page on the web site.

Since the help for Tune Smithy is currently a bit out of date and needs to be redone completely for the new 3.0 release, then you may find the on-line page for some of the newer tasks particularly useful.

Organise Windows = F2

Reset, or Save settings for this window. RIGHT CLICK for all windows menu...

Shows the Organise windows window - which you can use to reset all the parameters for the current window.

You can also use it to save the settings for just this window, or open previously saved parameters for just this window.

Also has a drop list of all the windows and their shortcuts, and related options - some to do with the menu listing, and some to do with window resizing and minimising.

Other Dialog Star

Tip of the day - For All category - right click for neighbouring windows...

Left click for a tip of the day in this category.

Right click to see a menu of neighbouring windows.

The neighbours are the ones you most often move to after this one or within a minute of this one, arranged by popularity.

So as you continue to use FTS, it will learn your habits, and the neighbouring windows listed here, should be the ones you most often visit after this one.
