Your entry needs to be somewhere on the web, so that the tree making program can find it.
The tuning group faq folder will do just fine - upload your file to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tuning/files/faq
You need to replace any spaces by underlines in the file name, as url encoded spaces confuse the tree applet:
cents_to_from_ratios.html
Then make a note of the url as it appears in the browser location bar. (In Windows, you can take a note of it using copy then paste into a text file, e.g. Ctrl C + Ctrl V).
Then either follow the instructions on the rest of the page to add the entry yourself, or send an e-mail to me at update_faq@rcwalker.freeserve.co.uk with the url of your entry and I will add it in for you
From the database page, click on FAQ tree, then Add record.
This should take you straight to the Add record page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tuning/database?method=addRecord&tbl=4
Url: the url you have just noted down
Parent folder: the folder you want your entry to appear in in the tree. E.g. Newbie questions
Short description: title of your article in the tree.
Author: yourself. Also say whether it is suitable for conversion to ascii - yes if it is in text format anyway, or if it is html and you'd like it to be converted to ascii automatically for the ascii faq.
If the parent folder you give isn't in the tree yet, this will place it at the top level of the tree.
To make a new one anywhere else, you need to say where you want it put, like this:
Notations | Half flats and half sharps
(leave url field blank)
This creates a new folder called Half flats and half sharps in the Notations folder.
When finished, click Save Record
You won't see a change immediately - new entries in the database are added to the tree when it is next refreshed, i.e. when the program is next run to automatically generate it. You can let me know that you want it updated by sending an e-mail to update_faq@rcwalker.freeserve.co.uk
This is especially useful if you want to add several new entries at once. It is also faster even for a single entry.
Make sure you have a ; at the end of each field, and no other semicolons. Then put on a single line:
Cents to from ratios; Cents to ratios and back again; homepage.ntlworld.com/robertwalker/tree/cents_to_from_ratios.htm; Robert Walker
To add several entries at once, repeat this for as many entries as you want to add.
Choose a ; as the delimiter for the Import Records.
Then import them using Import Data for the FAQ_tree database
