Running away from dogs or dinosaurs or whatever far faster than our hero, nearly catch him or her - and then miraculously they have managed to travel another half mile or something with the fast attackers just a few meters further ahead, still catching up with them at great speed. Another half mile later, and they are a few meters closer yet again.
I understand why they do it - if you showed them half a mile behind, you'd hardly see them and be a very short chase scene - only way to make it last longer than a few seconds and at the same time have the attackers close enough for dramatic shots of both of them at once is to have them close together all the way through the chase like this.
But it is very implausible except as a "movie convention"
